2012: A New Year and a New Project

At midnight tonight the year 2011 will come to an end and we will once again celebrate a new year, filled with new experiences, challenges and expectations. Like every year 2011 had it's ups and downs for me. Some highlights of the year included a job promotion and attending a gaming convention as a journalist for the first time for Game Rant.

Many weddings were attended in 2011 including the most important one of my sister. And many more will be attended in 2012.

Friends welcomed new babies into the world, and my family celebrated the long lives of those we have lost this year. Yeah, there was a significant amount of saddness this year but these experiences only serve to make us stronger and cherish the lives and loved ones we have.

365 Project

In 2011 with all the stress of daily life, I made it a priority to focus on the things that made me happy. I revisited my constant love of action figures and will turn this into a project for the new year.  This year I aquired a number of Kidrobot Street Fighter Collectible Mini Figures and LEGO Minifigures and with these I will start a 365 Project. Projects like this, which involve toys are popular on Flickr and if you haven't checked them out here are a couple of links to get your started. These are the two

Pasukaru76 has an awesome collection of photos of LEGO creations and Minifig 365 sets.

User Stefan has a great 365 set of photos centered around Star Wars, especially the Storm Trooper. It's hilarious and definately worth checking out if you're a Star Wars fan.

These are the two collections of photos that inspired me to start a 365 project. I also have to thank Doug Klostermann for putting me on to the Stormtrooper 365 set. Check out his site and buy is e-books they're awesome and so is he.

For photography gear I have my trusted Nikon D90, and a Nikon P7000 (which kinda lacks in the AF department). These two will work fine for the project, but I forsee a lot of my photos be taken on a camera that's always accessable and reliable and that is my iPhone.

A few years ago, world renowned commercial photographer Chase Jarvis created a book called The Best Camera Is The One That's With You: iPhone Photography. In the years since this book's release the iPhone has proven to be one of the best cameras a person can have on them.

Below are a couple of samples of what you should expect in the coming year. Comment and let me know what you think. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
