DJ Hero
I've been very reluctant to jump on the rhythm game bandwagon, mostly due to the fact that a new one seems to come out every six months or so. What's the point of buying one when a new one is just around the corner? The only aspect of the previous music games I liked was the guitar to the idea of purchasing a whole band set didn't even register with me, especially since I don't host many people. When DJ Hero was announced I was very interested mainly because I'm attracted to turntablism more than rock music.
I took the plunge a couple weeks ago into DJH and it pretty much went beyond my expectations. With these rhythm games it usually takes a little while to get into the groove of things, DJH however has a higher learning curve than your standard guitar and drum affair. The experience is also a lonely one, while you can plug in a guitar, this is only limited to select tracks. DJH also sports a local two-player mode and online multiplayer.
The main thing I enjoy about this game is the music. I truly enjoy mash-ups Collision Course featuring Linkin Park and Jay-Z being one of my favorite albums. The music is more suited for the dance club which might turn some who enjoyed previous rhythm games. Speaking of dance, this game makes you want to get up and dance, however it's not recommended since you will screw up and prevent your self from reaching that 5 star score. Losing stars is your only penalty in this game because there is no fail mode. You just keep playing until the track ends. Those stars you play for are used to unlock new DJs, decks, headphones and venues and you can pretty much put the game on easy to unlock everything, but where's the fun in that. The cross fader isn't implemented unless you put the game on medium so I suggest people to start there to get a good feel for the game. Hight difficulties introduce cross spikes and specific scratching directions. Satisfying to truly master, but if you're just looking to have fun then medium will suffice.
The party play mode can be utilized when hosting a group. The tracks are placed on continuous play until someone pushes the euphoria (star power form past GH) button and jumps in.
To anyone who was interested I highly recommend this game, but take note that it's pretty much a single player experience and may not be the best party game because of it.
